Mr. Afkari is a Vice President at Areté Capital Partners with over eight years of experience in distressed debt, high yield liquid credit, special situations, restructuring, and mergers and acquisitions. He has invested in the debt and equity of companies, and has advised debtors and
creditors in varying industries, across public and private markets.
Prior to joining Areté, Mehyar was an Analyst at the NY-based hedge fund Verition, where he focused on distressed debt, special situations, capital structure arbitrage, and event driven thematic investing in the public markets. He invested L/S across the capital structure, focusing
on distressed issuers in the high yield and leveraged loan markets in the US and Europe.
Prior to Verition, Mr. Afkari served as an Analyst at Carl Marks & Co., where he served as an investment banker and restructuring advisor responsible for M&A, Chapter 11 reorganizations, out-of-court restructurings, and corporate finance transactions for a range of public and private global clients. He has successfully represented management teams, boards of directors, private equity investors, commercial banks, unsecured creditors, bondholders, distressed investors, and ad hoc creditor and shareholder committees, specializing in designing and executing solutions for turnaround, distressed, and special situations.
Mehyar has a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Art History from NYU Stern.
