
Mr. Hoppen is a Senior Associate at Areté Capital Partners where he engages in both sponsor and fiduciary activities. Mr. Hoppen has experience working in diversified industries helping clients with mergers and acquisitions, organizational turnarounds, and debt restructuring.
Prior to joining Areté, TJ was a Manager in Richter Consulting’s US Restructuring practice wherein he advised middle market lenders & private equity sponsors on distressed assets pursuant to credit amendment negotiations, refinancings, and underwritings. At Richter, TJ gained extensive expertise in the development and maintenance of 13-week cash flow forecasts, 3-statement financial modeling, and the development of Quality of Earnings (QoE) analyses in industries including, but not limited to, consumer products, industrials, professional services, and B2B SaaS. Prior to Richter, TJ was in KPMG’s Deal Advisory & Strategy Consulting Practice, where he worked across M&A integration / separation planning & execution for multiple Fortune 500 consumer & retail companies, Commercial Due Diligence on Healthcare Assets for private equity sponsors, and Turnaround & Restructuring on distressed Tier 1 suppliers on behalf of Automotive OEM’s.
Prior to KPMG, TJ earned his Master of Business Administration from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. While in business school, TJ served as a Graduate Assistant for ‘Topics in Accounting’, assisting in the design and administration of the course in addition to the ‘Capstone’ MBA case study for 100+ MBA candidates. Additionally in the MBA program, TJ won the Jim Gandorf Field Consulting award for a self-sourced engagement on behalf of a Detroit-based Health System desiring to better understand how to value and implement value-based care principles.
TJ is originally from Detroit and currently resides in Chicago. Outside of work, he enjoys supporting his Detroit professional sports teams, reading books, and playing golf.
